When I re-read my first post this morning I couldn't help but laugh on how much that first post really reflects me as a person. It targets my main fears: being boring, not being unique, and my personal struggle with identity and authenticity (which we will discuss in future posts). But it also shows my tendency to oversimplify things. So no wonder that I found 50 ways to destroy my own argument, which is why I'll be dedicating my next posts to doing just that. Hopefully, at some point in time the way I perceive life will be more consistent. But for now, here's a recap of my previous argument:
The premise: All Human Beings are interesting. This is something that I personally count as a fact, which is why it will be considered a premise, and not an argument
Arguments:
-To be interesting, you need to be self-aware
-Self awareness gives life a meaning
-To be interesting, we need to be able to talk about ourselves
-Truth is not as important as perception
-Being interesting, self aware, and having a meaning in life, inevitable leads to happiness
Do you see why these arguments can be destroyed? If all human being are interesting, why do we need to be self-aware? If self-awareness gives life a meaning what if we were negative and did not believe in the meaning of life? If we need to talk about ourselves to be interesting, again that means not all human beings are interesting? Why is perception more important than truth? And how the hell did I jump to the conclusion that happiness requires these things? And those are only the few ways to destroy my arguments, there are plenty more questions to ask.
So here's the plan:
-First, I will differentiate between truth and perception, linking it this time to being interesting.
-Second, I will differentiate between being self-aware, and being happy
-Third, I will discuss the importance of language, and the importance of being a good conversationalist
And believe me when I say, I will make mistakes in my arguments and I will do my best to fix them as I realize what they are. In the mean time, I hope you enjoy the next posts.
